Scenario: It's only going to take a few minutes to get this done... and then suddenly you realized it actually took 2 hours to complete! Or maybe you didn't complete it at all because it was taking so much longer than you expected!
If this scenario rings true to you... believe me, you are not alone! We all underestimate time, we always think it will take less time than it actually does. This can cause a lot of problems, for you and the others around you!
Here are two strategies on beating the time trap:
1) Always add time to your projects - For some projects consider doubling it... if you think it will take 10 minutes, expect 20 minutes. If you are still finding the timing wrong, then really analyze the issue. Get to the heart of what's taking you so much longer, maybe it's time to eliminate outside distractions, or start to delegate out some of the project.
2) Think small rather than so big- Especially when trying to complete a project, think about it just in time intervals, so instead of saying I am going to finish organizing my office today, think I am going to work on organizing my office today for one hour. Keep track of where you left off, so you can continue later. The point is breaking the project up to not feel so overwhelming or take up so much of your time!
