Placeholder 05: Building the Refined Spidey-Sense
Placeholder is a podcast dedicated to, and produced for, the supporting members of our Patreon community. We’re proud to offer episode one to all, and we invite you to hear more by becoming a patron today.
Trent Adams serves as director of Ecosystem Security at Proofpoint. You don’t really need to think about all that to gear up for this episode, though. What you do need to know, as a way to get to know why he’s here today, is that his name is behind a number of the security standards that define the systems that keep us save when we use the Internet. Those standards are mostly presented in a form of acronym confetti which will make your ears bleed, but they’re important, invisible ingredients to how we live right now.
Trent Adams knows his stuff.
I invited Trent onto the show to share his expertise in hopes that we would be able to present a perspective that would keep you safe in your own lives. But here’s the other thing to know about him: he’s a dear old friend of mine. That presents a challenge.
This conversation was much, much bigger in scope than I intended. Please know, I did cut it down — I promise! — but it’s still a beefy conversation. And while some of it might make your eyes cross, the bottom line is this: thinking about how systems work online and developing a basic understanding of how servers talk to one another will help you make better decisions about the tools you use, the services you belong to, and the devices you carry. It will help you protect yourself and your family.
