What Nobody Told You About Planning With ADHD

The three things that actually get in the way of planning with ADHD, and none of them are willpower. From Nikki Kinzer, PCC, ADHD coach and co-host of Taking Control: The ADHD Podcast.

You found the right planner. You set it up carefully. For a few days, maybe a few weeks, it worked.

Then life happened. The system started to feel heavy. The planner got buried under something, and the app slid into a folder you haven't opened since February.

And then the question that actually hurts: why can't I just stick to something?

Here's what I want you to understand. Traditional planning systems were built for neurotypical brains. They assume consistency, sequential thinking, and steady motivation. Those aren't native skills for an ADHD brain, and no amount of willpower changes that.

So when your planning falls apart, it isn't a character flaw. Something specific got in the way. I call those planning roadblocks, and roadblocks can be moved.
