Balancing Work, Life and ADHD
How does a person balance their work life and personal life?
As I write this, I think, 'wow, that's a good question!' as I’m certainly a work in progress when it comes to figuring this out too. For those of you who have ADHD, the answer may even be harder to find.
Fighting hyper focus, constant distractions, losing track of time, are all obstacles that have to be managed if you want a better balance in your life.
Here are a few ideas on how to achieve the balance, we all so desperately need...
1) Schedule Downtime - If you are not intentional with your time, then your schedule is being dictated by everyone else in your life, except for the most important person, and that is you. If you want more time doing the things you want to do, like spending time with other people, you have to plan for it.
2) Set Boundaries - When you are saying "yes" to someone or something, you are saying "no" to something else. Make sure you have your priorities right. Before you agree to anything, kindly let the other person know, you will get back to them. Buy yourself some time to think about how this fits into your schedule. Is it something you really want to do or can do, and if not, then politely decline.
3) Unplug - In my own experience, nothing brings me back to the present moment than to turn away from my electronics. It's not an easy thing to do, but it does work! Enjoy your conversations with loved ones this holiday season without the distraction of your phones, tablets, laptops, or televisions.
Thank you for your time and attention...
Take care,
Nikki
