The Benefit of Friendship
It’s so much easier to make friends when you’re a kid.
As an adult, especially an adult with ADHD, maintaining friendships can be a struggle.
Between family, work, and home life, you may find your friends taking a back seat in your life.
Don’t discount the value of friendship!
On a recent episode of Taking Control: The ADHD Podcast, Pete and I sat down with relationships expert, Melissa Orlov, to talk about the importance of friendship, how to keep friends and about having healthy, long-lasting relationships.
On the show we talked about easy ways you can take steps toward maintaining lasting friendships.
Set aside time
Dedicate a specific day or time each week where you intend to spend time with a friend or group of friends. Having a specific time gives intention to hanging out with friends.
Create reminders
Save yourself from forgetting important dates, like birthdays, by putting the date into your digital calendar. Set the reminder to never expire so you will be annually reminded of your friend’s special days.
You can even create reminders a week or two before a special occasion to get a card and mail it out.
Don’t let your ADHD run the relationship
It can be easy to forget to reply to friends or miss out on special occasions due to your ADHD. However, if the friendship is meaningful, it is worth the effort to find ways to make sure you make your friends a priority, regardless of your ADHD.
Whether you have 2 friends or 50 friends, it’s important to have these relationships. Friendships are beneficial to many parts of your life and are guaranteed to improve your overall well being.
Thank you for your time and attention,
