Communicating With Your Children

Recently, I was reading the book, Why Will No One Play With Me? from Caroline Maguire and I highlighted a certain passage that I still can’t get out of mind.

I wonder how many arguments and misunderstandings I could have derailed if I had followed her advice, but at least now I know and I can do better in future conversations.

Here’s what she had to say….

“The thing to remember is this: We don’t always know what’s bothering children, and we must not assume that we do. We need to consult them, ask them about their experience, listen without jumping to conclusions or telling them what to do. We need to make the point of it all to understand them first, then join them in exploring what they want.”

I want to share this because sometimes in the midst of chaos our children’s voices get lost. This is a reminder to listen.

Thank you for your time and attention.
