Is It Time To Look For A New Job?
Recognizing the Signs of Burnout!
Every job has pros and cons and something that we learned when we interviewed Dr. Doug Herr, is that your relationships have a great deal to do with how much you are willing to tolerate in the work environment.
If you have a great boss and co-workers, putting in extra hours at work is going to be too bad. If you have a horrible boss and your co-workers who are taking advantage of you, the extra hours can turn into something more.
Here are some of the common reasons people feel burnout from their jobs:
They feel physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted
No work and life balance - spending way too much time working
Increased stress and anxiety, constantly ruminating about your job
The workload is impossible
Unclear expectations - lack of control
What are the consequences of burnout?
More likely to get sick
Basic self-care doesn’t get taken care of
Shutting down - can lead to depression
Weight gain / weight loss
Alcohol or drug abuse
If you are experiencing burnout from your job, evaluate your situation.
Here are a few questions to ask:
Is this a temporary situation or permanent?
How much longer can you work under these conditions?
What are your options? Can you talk to your boss or HR?
What would an exit plan look like if you were to leave?
Thank you for your time and attention!
