Is It Time To Look For A New Job?

Recognizing the Signs of Burnout!

Every job has pros and cons and something that we learned when we interviewed Dr. Doug Herr, is that your relationships have a great deal to do with how much you are willing to tolerate in the work environment.

If you have a great boss and co-workers, putting in extra hours at work is going to be too bad. If you have a horrible boss and your co-workers who are taking advantage of you, the extra hours can turn into something more.

Here are some of the common reasons people feel burnout from their jobs:

  • They feel physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted

  • No work and life balance - spending way too much time working

  • Increased stress and anxiety, constantly ruminating about your job

  • The workload is impossible

  • Unclear expectations - lack of control

What are the consequences of burnout?

  • More likely to get sick

  • Basic self-care doesn’t get taken care of

  • Shutting down - can lead to depression

  • Weight gain / weight loss

  • Alcohol or drug abuse

If you are experiencing burnout from your job, evaluate your situation.

Here are a few questions to ask:

  • Is this a temporary situation or permanent?

  • How much longer can you work under these conditions?

  • What are your options? Can you talk to your boss or HR?

  • What would an exit plan look like if you were to leave?

Thank you for your time and attention!
