Measuring The Success Of Your Routines

What I have to say may surprise you!

For many of us, the measurement of our routines is based on one thing: Consistency!

However, you can ask any ADHDer and they will tell you that “consistent” the one thing they are not.

The ADHD mind is consistent at being inconsistent.

So, why measure success around something you already know you’re not good at?

It may feel like it doesn’t make any sense.

Doing a routine every day is nice—and it will certainly help you turn a routine into a habit—however, there are other ways to define your success.

Try asking yourself a few of these questions when you’re feeling frustrated about inconsistency:

When you followed the routine…

  • Did it accomplish what you wanted?

  • Did you feel more in control of your time?

  • Did you worry less about forgetting something?

  • Were you in a better mood?

  • Did you feel more confident?

  • Were you happier when you went to bed that night?

You may not get a chance, for whatever reason, to practice your routine everyday—that’s ok. Next time, try to remember how you feel when you do it, and try again tomorrow!

Thank you for your time and attention,

-Nikki
