Protecting Your Day Off!

In our show, In The Shadow of the Haunt List: Productivity with Dr. Marilyn Paul, we talk about the importance of taking time off.

The more time you put into your To-Do List DOES NOT equal more productivity, especially with ADHD.

To get your best work done with ADHD, you need to be able to focus. Focus doesn’t come easy. You have to work at it and set yourself up in a way that leads to success not frustration.

One of the ways to do this is to think about your energy levels.

  • Identify when you feel your best and plan your work around these times. You will get more done in an hour when you are focused and feeling good than in 4 hours of being tired and distracted.

I know from working with clients that taking a day off, even when you know it’s good for your mental and physical health, it’s too easy to think something else is more important. Practicing a different mindset can help us see that our well being needs to be a priority.

We can begin to do this by gating our day off.

What does this mean?

It means no one can come in unless you allow them.

The to-do list for work and home is put away and you choose what to focus on. If you’re looking for more balance in your life, this is a way to find it.

  • Work on your spiritual practice

  • Set time aside for self-growth

  • Meditate / Journal

  • Set up activities and dates with friends and family

  • Exercise outside

  • Work on a hobby - do something creative

  • Watch a movie

  • Read a book or magazine

It is a good idea to have some structure to your day off, plan with intention, which means have an idea of what you want to do and when you want to do it.

Thank you for your time and attention!
