It’s Not About the Destination: Finding Joy in the Journey & Celebrating Progress over Perfection

"I'll just be happy when this is done."

Have you ever found yourself saying something like this? I know I have.

We all have those chores or tasks that we truly do not want to do, and all we want it for it to be over with and done.

While this sentiment is common for many of us, how much of your day is covered in this sort of feeling? Do you recognize yourself experiencing this feeling of just wanting to "get it over with" more than you experience other things?

If that's you, you are certainly not alone in feeling this way.

What are you missing out on?

If we only focus on the destination or finish line, we might miss out on the experience of the journey.

To explain what I mean, I am going to share an example from the movie, Click.

If you have never seen the movie (no spoilers), the main character finds a magical way to skip through parts of his life that he finds boring or painful, and instead, he jumps ahead to get to the next "good part".

It's kind of like skipping the commercials for a tv show you have recorded, but instead of commercials, it's your life.

The difference is, you don't know what you might be missing if you just rush through the things you would prefer not to do. Every day and every experience is a chance to make a memory, to learn and grow, to connect with someone. If we try to rush those "boring" moments, we might just miss out on something special.

Now it's your turn

The next time you find yourself dreading a task or wanting to rush through a chore, stop and take a moment to consider how you can make the experience more memorable or enjoyable, or maybe even how you can learn something new through the experience.

You may find yourself dreading less of your day, and enjoying it instead.

How can you find ways to slow down and enjoy your journey today?

Thank you for your time and attention,

Nikki
